Description:

An inherited (present at birth) condition where fatty deposits affect organs and systems like the nervous system causing them to fail or become enlarged. Some people affected show no symptoms whilst others are badly affected there are three types:

  • Type One : this is the most common- patients usually bruise easily and suffer from anaemia

  • Type Two: The liver and spleen are enlarged in children as young as 2 months old, brain damage is symptomatic with fatalities
  • Type three: This type has varying degrees of liver and spleen damage , and the brain seizures are slower to develop.
