Description:
This is a virus transmitted to people via the bite from an infected female mosquito. There are two forms Jungle yellow fever is mainly a disease of monkeys transmitted to mosquito and then to people and Urban yellow fever is a disease of humans from one mosquito biting an infected person then biting another. It can be a mild attack, but the disease can be a life-threatening illness as well. Symptoms of severe infection are high temperature, shivers, headache, back and muscle aches, black vomit due to intestinal bleeding. It can quickly lead on to kidney and liver failure with jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), which gives the disease its name. It can be prevented by vaccination.
