Epididymitis

The epididymis is a small tube which is on the top and the back of both testicles; it is where sperm collects and is stored. With Epididymitis this becomes inflamed through an infection which has backtracked along the urethra (the tube in the penis which urine and sperm travel down) it can be due to an STI (Sexually transmitted infection) like Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea or a urinary tract infection. The symptoms can include a swollen sensitive testicle with a feeling of heaviness; low stomach pains with pain on passing urine and a discharge may also occur.

Diagnosis and treatment:

The patient will possibly be limping and walking with legs apart due to the pain, the doctor will need to examine the testicle and take a history of the symptoms. It is possible for your symptoms to be a condition called torsion of the testes which means that one of your testicles may be twisted which causes the blood supply to be shut off and this is a more serious condition which will require surgery. Antibiotics will be the treatment for the Epididymitis and it is suggested that your sexual partner should be treated as well.
